PhFW Holiday 2013 - Day 2

PhFW Day 2

JAG - With Nina Garcia

Celine's POV: When I got home after Michael Cinco's show, I got a text from Mae which I didn't believe! I had won a VIP ticket to the JAG origins show!

Mae's POV: Even though I was quite tired when I got home after the Michael Cinco show, I immediately checked my twitter because I had an odd feeling that Celine and I would be watching The JAG origins show... And I was right! I spotted Celine's name under the winners of the VIP tickets! hurrah! I texted her to tell her she won but she thought I was playing a prank on her, so I had to call her right away because I just couldn't hold my excitement in. So I got to see Nina Garcia at the Jag Origins show thanks to fate! (or fine, thanks to friendship. Thank you for inviting me, Celine )

We had to be in SMX at 6 to get the two VIP passes. We got there on time and registered, but were told to wait 10 minutes for the passes. 10 minutes later and we still didn't have our passes. And the 10 minutes after that and the 10 minutes after that… Long story short, we never actually got our passes, though we did get in.  It was kind of fun though before we got inside –these awesome girls from Status magazine took our pictures. (I also told them that G-Dragon is my style icon LOL. Hello GD! you're my style icon... please notice me... -Mae)

Finally they opened the gates, (btw, we never got our passes) but they still let us in, VIP –guess they knew? We had pretty good seats; front row, by the end of the runway, and before the show started. Nina Garcia passed literally a foot away from us! Whoo hoo! We both semi-panicked when Nina walked in, and ended up taking really stalker-ish pictures of her as she passed us.

After some technical issues, the show started with the Binibining Pilipinas girls coming out in JAG’s new ankle cut jeans. They were actually pretty cool, with leatherette and bleached denim variations.

The rest of the JAG pieces came out. They were creative and funky, and the denim shirts were adorable, but the quality was still very commercial. Overalls and suspenders seemed to be making a comeback.

JAG collaborated with three designers for the final collections. Norman Noriega’s collection was very monochromatic, with sheer, light fabric –mostly black and white. The pieces were quite repetitive though, in terms of cut and design.

Jeffrey Rogador’s collection was quite opposite Noriega’s. It was heavier more centered on the combination of textures and geometric lines. Also, his shoes were pretty awesome.

Jerome Salaya Ang’s collection was the most avante-guard of the bunch. The pants-dress was quite edgy, but overall the bead work was a bit too much for a commercial brand.

It was time for the Nina Garcia forum to begin and Boy Abunda moderated the talk. He seemed just as giddy as the rest of us to be in the presence of Nina Garcia! Nina gave a lot of great advice, and it was very inspiring for young designers.

The parts that stood out to us the most:

1. She wasn't scared of anyone as she was entering the fashion industry. She was pretty much fearless.
2. Nina saying, "I just wanted to breathe the air of fashion." WE KNOW HOW YOU FEEL, NINA.
3. She loves the bloggers! After she said this we gave each other the look. The we-have-to-start-our-blog-right-now! look.
4. Talking about John Galliano and Alexander Mcqueen when they were young and up-and-coming designers. She called Alexander McQ "Lee"! How endearing!

It really was inspiring to hear Nina Garcia speak about fashion and we left the event feeling very... excited. Can't wait for the chance to one day work with Nina Garcia. And maybe even have our works on the pages of Marie Claire soon?

Congratulations to Jag for an awesome event! Wonder who they'll bring in as a guest next year?
